2013 Chambers USA Recognizes Maslon as "Leading Minnesota Firm;" Ten Attorneys Named "Leaders in their Field"

Maslon is pleased to announce its continued ranking as a "Leading Minnesota Firm" for Litigation, Construction, Corporate/M&A, and Labor & Employment in the 2013 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business. In addition, the publication recognizes ten Maslon attorneys as "Leaders in their Field" in Minnesota. The rankings are the result of extensive client interviews and research to assess technical legal ability, professional conduct, client service, commercial astuteness, diligence, commitment, and other qualities most valued by the client, and reflect a law firm's pre-eminence in key practice areas.

Maslon's top-ranked practice areas and attorneys in the 2013 edition of Chambers USA are:

Litigation - Leading Minnesota Firm
Chambers USA describes Maslon's Litigation Group as being "much-praised" and "well equipped to represent clients in a variety of contentious matters." One client said, "I have been extremely impressed with the litigation group as a whole. They are quick to assess a case and are extremely realistic about the likelihood of success. When they engage in litigation, they are outcome-focused."

Geoffrey Jarpe, William Pentelovitch and David Schultz were named as "Leaders in their Field" in Minnesota for General Commercial Litigation. Chambers reports that Geoffrey Jarpe "has a broad base of experience and has particularly distinguished himself in the field of securities litigation." Client sources describe Bill Pentelovitch as an "exceptionally gifted litigator" and "extremely practical." Chambers describes David Schultz as "recommended for his product liability prowess," adding that clients value his "in-depth knowledge of their product lines," his "terrific negotiation skills," and his "deft touch at managing the litigation" to meet their goals.

David Herr was named as a "Leader in their Field" in Minnesota for Appellate Litigation. Chambers says clients are "impressed by [his] appellate expertise" and describe his advice as "consistently spot on."

Construction - Leading Minnesota Firm
Chambers USA shares that "[Maslon] handles a broad range of construction matters. Its expertise includes alternative fuel projects, the representation of contractors in default cases and the defense of claims relating to design issues. Maslon's Construction Practice is also noted as being "active in the niche area of defective construction insurance coverage and was recently engaged to advise on two competing lawsuits relating to an insurance coverage dispute."

James Killian and James Duffy O'Connor were named as "Leaders in their Field" in Minnesota for Construction. Chambers USA stated that Jim Killian is "known for advising power companies in environmentally preferable products contracts and representing bondholders in construction financings." Jim O'Connor was described by clients as "an intelligent, tenacious and effective advocate."

Corporate/M&A - Leading Minnesota Firm
Chambers USA reports that Maslon's Corporate/M&A Group "provides general corporate counsel to clients from a variety of industry sectors, encompassing manufacturing, retail, agriculture, financial services, hospitality and gaming."

Named as "Leaders in their Field" in Minnesota for Corporate/M&A in this group were Alan Gilbert, described as "a notable transactional lawyer, with significant securities experience," and Martin Rosenbaum, "noted for his securities expertise" and having "recently advised Valspar on a $400 million public offering in senior notes."

Labor & Employment - Leading Minnesota Firm
Chambers USA states that client sources say that Maslon's Labor & Employment Group attorneys are "sophisticated, understand our business really well and are responsive."

Named as "Leaders in their Field" were Jessica Pecoraro and Howard Tarkow. Jessica Pecoraro "concentrates her practice on employment counseling and has a particular focus on wage and hour, ADA and FMLA issues," and Howard Tarkow is "well regarded" and "has a broad labor and employment practice."
