Consulting On Appellate Matters

Maslon's Appellate Team is most often called in to handle appeals, with the assistance of trial counsel. We can provide valuable advice and assistance in other ways, however. Before an appeal is even taken, Maslon appellate lawyers are often called upon to provide advice. For example, we provide advice during trial and in connection with post-trial motions, to ensure that issues are properly preserved for appeal. We believe our appellate expertise can be invaluable at this stage. We also assist trial counsel with preparing and responding to interlocutory appellate writ petitions.

After trial proceedings are concluded, we assist trial lawyers and other counsel who wish to conduct their own appeals, but seek to benefit from our experience and judgment as appellate lawyers, either as co-counsel or as behind-the-scenes advisors. We offer valuable assistance on all aspects of appellate practice. For example, we consult on matters of procedure and strategy, we provide editorial advice on briefs, and we assist with preparing for oral argument. We can organize moot court arguments and have frequently done so for the benefit of arguing counsel and to allow clients to observe and understand what will happen at the "real" argument. Maslon appellate lawyers can help you defend that hard-earned victory, or reverse that bitter defeat.
