Rachel Bowe Hamline University Law School Class of 2009 2008 Summer Associate

My summer experience at Maslon was truly excellent. It was filled with challenging assignments, exciting observation opportunities, a variety of social and professional events, and plenty of fun throughout the entire summer.

Having informed the summer program coordinators that complex litigation was my primary area of interest, I researched a large variety of litigation-related issues, wrote numerous research memos, drafted multiple motions, and, as the highlight of my summer, I even traveled with a senior partner to Denver, CO, for a client meeting! Without a doubt, my work assignments as a summer associate accurately reflected the caliber of assignments given to a new associate at Maslon.

In addition to the work aspect, I had plenty of opportunities to meet and interact with the firm's attorneys and staff. I attended numerous professional and social events, including dinner parties, lawn bowling at Brit's, Habitat for Humanity, the Star Wars exhibit at the Science Museum, and, the best of them all, the firm's annual all-attorney retreat!

Notwithstanding the exceptional work opportunities and summer events, the firm's culture is most certainly worth noting. Together, the staff on up to the senior partners work diligently and collaboratively on challenging, complex legal matters. Regardless of one's role on the team, everyone shares a sense ownership in the end product. And while everyone is expected to work hard to get the job done, Maslon appreciates the value of time spent outside of the office. Indeed, this is ultimately what led me to Maslon: the opportunity to work on high-stakes litigation while, at the same time, maintaining that ever-so-precious work-life balance.

To sum it all up, Maslon's summer associate program provides the perfect balance of interesting and challenging work, valuable observation opportunities, and fun social events. In my opinion, this balance accurately reflects the holistic culture of the firm. At Maslon, you'll work with smart, top-notch attorneys on exciting, complex matters in an environment that's fun, easy-going, and friendly.
