I came to the summer program at Maslon with two expectations: Professors and attorneys I consulted during my job search described Maslon as not only the most collegial place to work in the Twin Cities, but also, they praised Maslon as a firm that produces legal work of exceptional quality. Over the course of the summer, I learned how Maslon has earned these reputations.
First, the training at Maslon is impeccable. The firm provides each summer associate with an associate mentor, a partner mentor, and a writing mentor. Treated as a respected colleague by each, I found that this personal attention helped me to develop my skills beyond my expectations. Attorneys at Maslon see the potential in summer associates, and are eager to give assignments that foster a love of legal practice. Because of this attitude, I was able to participate in a number of exciting projects-I helped deliver a presentation I created with a partner and associate to an important client; and I went to trial in a pro-bono case. I was exposed to projects in a variety of practice areas, which gave me the opportunity to discover for myself what type of law I was interested in practicing.
Second, Maslon is a firm that carries an air of well being, happiness, and collegiality. Through cultural activities, such as cooking class and a night at the theater, and community service, such as Habitat for Humanity and serving dinner at a local shelter, Maslon creates an environment for meaningful interaction with attorneys and support staff. I do not exaggerate when I say that I felt as if I had been welcomed with open arms into the "Maslon family."
My summer at Maslon exceeded all expectations. It is a special place- a law firm that is a community filled with passionate attorneys who are committed to excellence. I would highly recommend Maslon to any law student.
