The Founders

Creative vision is realized in a firm that values individual diversity, professional excellence and integrity, and dedicated client service.

The Maslon firm was founded by Samuel H. Maslon, a graduate of Harvard Law School and law clerk to Justice Brandeis. Sam Maslon earned a national reputation as a skilled business, corporate law and tax attorney. A patron of the arts and education, his influence is reflected in the culture and practices of the Maslon firm today.

Hyman Edelman joined the firm in 1956. A University of Minnesota Law School graduate, Hy Edelman was an early leader in drafting ground-breaking civil rights legislation that set a national standard. His commitment to non-discrimination and human rights continues to be a guiding philosophy within the Maslon law firm.

Marvin Borman, a Harvard Law School graduate, became associated with the firm in 1949. Known for his excellence in corporate law and estate planning, he was and continues to be a leading force in the local civic community, setting the standard for the firm's long-standing commitment to community and civic service.

Irving Brand graduated from the University of Minnesota Law School and, after a distinguished career as a Judge of the Hennepin County District Court, joined the firm in 1967. He spent his next twenty years trying complex civil matters.
