Nadege Souvenir Quoted in Twin Cities Metro Article "Crime in the Facebook Age"
Nadege Souvenir, a member of Maslon's Litigation and Labor & Employment groups, was quoted in the March 2011 issue of Twin Cities Metro. The article, "Crime in the Facebook Age," touches on the implications of social media use in the legal arena.
In the context of jury communications, Nadege observed that "[t]here appears to be some sort of disconnect, by telling jurors not to communicate outside the courtroom and not understanding that social media is a part of that[.]" She explained, "The use of social media is trouble, because people have their Blackberries with them and they think they can tweet a comment or feeling - which is directly against what they've been [instructed]. Nadege also notes that social media issues with juries usually stem from a lack of awareness; "[i]n general, social media is an active form of communication, and everyone needs to be conscious of that in the courtroom."
