Federal and State Income Taxes
Overview
Our federal and state income tax practice primarily involves tax planning and advice concerning business transactions of various entities and entrepreneurs. We have helped clients plan new business activities in a manner that will not trigger that state's income tax, either by fitting within a federal law protecting interstate sales activities, or minimizing certain activities. We have also organized or merged corporate subsidiaries to minimize state income taxes in those states that do not require combined or consolidated reporting by corporate Groups.
We represent clients of all kinds in resolving complex disputes with the Internal Revenue Service and state tax authorities, but we do not usually represent individuals facing tax collection efforts or criminal prosecution for tax violations. We do not prepare income tax returns, except those being filed for trusts and estates that we represent in other matters.
