Stephanie Bitterman practices in Maslon's Litigation Group where she represents local and national clients in a wide range of high-stakes business disputes, including minority shareholder and creditor disputes, insurance coverage disputes, construction defect claims, and business contract disputes. Stephanie also has litigation experience involving non-compete and ERISA matters.

Stephanie received her law degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Law School. She was a member and editor of the Minnesota Law Review, and participated in the International Law Students Association. While in law school, Stephanie volunteered with the Minnesota Justice Foundation, where she assisted with immigration and asylum cases; she also studied international trade in a study-abroad program in Argentina. Prior to law school, Stephanie worked in customer service training and as a production coordinator in both the private and non-profit sectors. Stephanie graduated summa cum laude from Missouri Western State University with a B.A. in Spanish.

Experience

Business Litigation

  • Represents minority shareholders of an LLC in arbitration involving claims of fiduciary duty, breach of contract, and equitable remedies for buy-out.
  • Represented creditors in arbitration where clients obtained favorable awards in connection with multi-million dollar loans to private entities.
  • Rembrandt Enterprises v. Deb El Food Products LLC et al. Obtained summary judgment on behalf of creditor seeking to recover $1 million receivable dismissing debtor's $1.7 million counterclaim alleging creditor had breached supply agreement by demanding assurances of future performance.
  • MN Timberwolves Limited Partnership v. AEG Management. Represented the Minnesota Timberwolves in connection with a successful ruling in 2010 in a contractual dispute with the operator of the Target Center Arena over the rights to revenue from a new sign to be erected on the back of the Target Center Arena adjacent to the new Twins Stadium.
  • Obtained dismissal of claims against Fortune 500 company involving stock purchase and sale.
  • Represented national retailer and hotel chain in defending unfair labor practice and discrimination claims.
  • Obtained favorable judgment for client against lessees in default on a commercial lease.

Construction Litigation

  • Represented construction subcontractor in complex litigation involving multi-million dollar construction defect claims.
  • Represented construction subcontractor in arbitration involving mechanics' lien claims.
