Casey Beckett is a member of Maslon's Litigation Group, serving clients in complex commercial disputes. He represents clients ranging from small business owners to large corporations throughout all stages of litigation. Casey also has extensive experience litigating claims in class-actions, multi-district litigation, and consolidated litigation. He has a broad range of experience representing clients in commercial disputes, including breach-of-contract claims, insurance matters, construction and real estate litigation, intellectual property, fraud and business-tort claims, product liability, and the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. Casey also regularly counsels clients on matters involving antitrust , distribution, and franchising laws. Before joining Maslon, Casey practiced at a large private law firm.

Casey graduated magna cum laude from the University of Minnesota Law School. He received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Carleton College and attended the School for International Training in Bolivia. Casey is licensed to practice in the state and federal courts of Minnesota, the Western District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Eighth and Eleventh Circuits.

Selected Experience

  • Representing closely-held corporation in commercial dispute, asserting fraud and tortious-interference claims, and defending against breach-of-contract and other claims.
  • Asserted breach of contract, breach of loyalty, and other claims on behalf of spinal-implant manufacturer against a competitor and former sales representatives.
  • Defended pelvic-mesh manufacturer in consolidated state-court action, involving thousands of plaintiffs alleging multiple tort theories.
  • Successfully defended Fortune 100 electronics retailer in a class-action lawsuit alleging RICO violations in connection with the marketing of a consumer-electronic product manufactured and sold under the retailer's owned brand. Obtained dismissal and awarded over $50,000 in attorneys' fees for plaintiff's discovery violations.
  • Successfully defended Fortune 100 electronics retailer in a class-action lawsuit alleging false-advertising and breach-of-contract claims based on representations regarding battery life of laptop computers.
  • Obtained dismissal of tortious interference with contract claim brought by client's competitor that arose from competitor's failed launch of a competing credit-card loyalty program.
  • Successfully defended a Fortune 50 Health Insurance Company in an antitrust lawsuit involving alleged price-fixing and fraud related to prescription drug reimbursement under the federal Medicare Part D program. Plaintiff sought damages exceeding $1 billion and permanent injunctive relief. Obtained summary judgment on all claims on
    January 16, 2009.
  • Obtained dismissal of tortious interference with contract claim brought by client's competitor that arose from competitor's failed launch of a competing credit-card loyalty program.
