Maslon's Susan Link and Andrea Bischoff, Program Directors for Minnesota Wills for Heroes, Awarded the Minneapolis Fire Department Meritorious Service Award

October 12, 2018

Maslon is pleased to announce that Susan Link, chair of Maslon’s Estate Planning Group,  and  Andrea Bischoff, application support specialist, have been awarded the Meritorious Service Award by the Minneapolis Fire Department for their work and contributions to the Minneapolis Fire Department and the greater community as program directors for the Minnesota Wills for Heroes Program.

Each year, the Minnesota Wills for Heroes Program provides free legal services to First Responders across the state in the preparation of basic estate planning documents. Susan and Andrea serve both as program directors and active volunteers  for the organization, which has helped 219 Minneapolis Fire Department members and significant others prepare Wills, Powers of Attorney and Health Care Directives free of charge. The Service Award states, “The services provided by this [Minnesota Wills for Heroes] have given members of the Minneapolis Fire Department and their significant others much needed legal documents and peace of mind.”

To date, the Minneapolis Fire Department has hosted seven Wills for Heroes clinics since its first in 2009. Future clinic dates are scheduled for February 4, 2019; March 2, 2020 and April 4, 2022.

Susan Link is chair of Maslon’s Estate Planning Group and practices in the areas of estate planning, probate and trust administration. She works closely with families to plan the disposition of their assets, both during lifetime and at death, and to accomplish the optimal estate and gift tax planning for clients through wills, trusts and other instruments. She serves as the program director of Minnesota Wills for Heroes, a program designed to provide free legal services for the preparation of basic estate planning documents for Minnesota first responders.

More information about the Wills for Heroes Program can be found via the Minnesota State Bar Association.
