April 1, 2019
Hillary Taylor and Tom Pack, attorneys in Maslon's Litigation Group, will present at the Minnesota State Bar Association's Cultivating Diversity and Resilience Conference on April 1, 2019. Hillary will moderate a panel discussion, titled "Beyond Visibility – Continuing Challenges for LGBTQ Lawyers," where panelists—including Tom—will examine the unique challenges and opportunities of working as openly LGBTQ+ lawyers. Panelists will discuss and engage the audience in a wide range of topics, including: getting started in the legal professional as a young LGBTQ+ lawyer; the ongoing challenges facing LGBTQ+ lawyers, such as when and how to come out to clients and colleagues; managing the stereotypes presumed of LGBTQ+ people in the profession; taking advantage of unique business development opportunities; staying involved in the community through pro bono and community outreach efforts; effective affinity groups and allies in the workplace and bar; and their resilience and vision for the future as LGBTQ+ lawyers.
Hillary represents clients in complex commercial litigation matters, with an emphasis on tort and product liability, construction litigation, and general commercial litigation. In her products liability practice, she has successfully defended medical device manufacturers in both state and federal courts against allegations of manufacturing and design defects, strict liability, failure to warn, and breach of warranties. Hillary is active in her community and engaged with a range of diversity, equity, and inclusion-related initiatives and organizations. She is a member of Maslon's Diversity Committee, and she also serves on the Boards of Directors for the Minnesota Lavender Bar Association and Minnesota Justice Foundation.
