Maslon Attorney Nicole Narotzky Featured in the 2007 MSBA Pro Bono Legal Service Report
July 31, 2007
Nicole was recognized for her volunteer work with Chrysalis, assisting women who have experienced domestic violence to obtain an order for protection (OFP) as part of the Pro Bono Safety Project. Nicole took a case for a woman suffering from severe abuse by her husband. The woman had recently arrived to the United States from Africa and, with little understanding of the English language, needed assistance in obtaining help.
An advocate from Sojourner Project helped get services and shelter for the client. An interpreter helped the client communicate, and the team worked to obtain an OFP for her. Nicole was able to obtain child and spousal support in the first hearing and, when the husband contested, was able to prove through cross-examination that the husband was able to afford support for his wife and son.
