Melissa Muro LaMere Recognized as a 2019 Diversity and Inclusion Honoree by Minnesota Lawyer

August 5, 2019

Maslon is proud to announce the recognition of Litigation Attorney Melissa Muro LaMere as a 2019 Diversity and Inclusion Honoree by Minnesota Lawyer. The award celebrates individuals and organizations that have advanced diversity and inclusion within Minnesota's legal community. Melissa is one of only 25 honorees selected by an outside panel of judges who were particularly focused on individuals and organizations with a consistent track record in advocating for diversity and inclusion—not only in words but action.

Melissa is dedicated to elevating the profile of and increasing opportunities for Latinx attorneys throughout the state, who currently make up only 1% of legal practitioners in Minnesota, with the ultimate goal of creating a more visible path forward for diverse students coming up the pipeline. Of particular note, Melissa served on the board of the Minnesota Hispanic Bar Association from 2013-2019, and as co-chair of its Judicial Endorsements Committee from 2017-2019. In 2019, Melissa was appointed by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Minnesota Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan as a fourth judicial district member of the Commission on Judicial Selection, which solicits, considers, and recommends candidates to the Governor for vacancies in the District Trial Courts and the Workers' Compensation Court of Appeals.

Additionally, Melissa serves on the board of the Minnesota Infinity Project, an organization focused on gender disparity on the bench throughout the Eighth Circuit. She is a member of Maslon's Diversity Committee and co-chair of Maslon's Diverse Attorney Resource Group. Melissa also seeks out opportunities to represent historically marginalized communities through her robust pro bono practice, primarily serving as counsel to the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota in litigation involving individual constitutional rights and government transparency. As a result of her many contributions, Melissa was nationally recognized as a 2019 "Top Lawyer Under 40" by the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Melissa is an employment and business litigation attorney who enjoys working with clients to protect and grow their business in a competitive marketplace. She focuses her practice on the full spectrum of employment counseling and litigation matters and on business disputes involving non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, trade secrets, business contracts and torts, and unfair competition and trade practices.
