Overview

Tanya Carter is a paralegal in our litigation department with over 13 years of experience. She assists attorneys with many aspects of litigation including case management, discovery, trial preparation, and research. Prior to joining Maslon, she worked in insurance defense, primarily on construction defect claims. Tanya graduated with distinction from Iowa State University with a double major in communication studies and psychology and earned her paralegal certificate from the Minnesota Paralegal Institute.

Experience

  • Navigators Specialty Insurance Company v. Depomed, Inc. n/k/a/ Assertio Therapeutics, Inc. (N. D. Cal. 2019). Assisted with the representation of opioid manufacturer seeking coverage under life sciences product liability policies for hundreds of opioid lawsuits brought as part of the nationwide opioid litigation. (Ongoing.)
  • In re: Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis (Bankr. D. Minn. 2015). Assisted with the representation of the Committee of Parish Creditors, comprised of over 100 parishes facing hundreds of clergy abuse claims, in the Archdiocese Chapter 11 reorganization. Obtained tens of millions of dollars in insurance coverage settlements under missing insurance policies, which settlements were part of the $210 million settlement of Archdiocese and Parish clergy abuse claims, and represented the largest settlement by a diocese in bankruptcy to date in the United States.
  • Lead paralegal assisting counsel representing a Minnesota nonprofit organization on a pro bono basis to enforce its conservation easement rights to protect forest and natural habitat. Obtained successful outcome for client through mediation and settlement. (Minnesota State Court, Chisago County, 2015).
  • Lead paralegal assisting counsel representing a Fortune 500 international engineering, architecture, and construction firm, obtaining complete summary judgment dismissal of approximately $2 million personal injury lawsuit involving allegations of design negligence. Summary judgment order was not appealed. (Minnesota State Court, Fillmore County, 2015).
  • Zurich American Ins. Co. v. Uponor North America, Inc. et al, Case No. 19HA-CV-13-4791 (Dakota County Dist. Ct. 2013). Lead paralegal assisting counsel representing Uponor North America, Inc. in complex coverage action brought by Zurich against Uponor and its other primary insurers seeking a declaration of no coverage for liability claims brought against Uponor in class action litigation arising from alleged defects in Uponor's yellow brass plumbing fittings installed in homes and condominiums nationwide. Successfully resolved through mediation and settlement.
  • Farmers Cooperative Company v. Rembrandt Enterprises, Inc. Member of the trial team for Rembrandt Enterprises, Inc., a privately held, leading agribusiness and food company in week-long bench trial in Iowa state court. Obtained complete trial victory in a breach of contract case in which plaintiff sought $7 million in damages.
