Voice of Maslon
During OCI I was looking for firms with two key attributes: first, I wanted to find a firm whose summer program would give me an accurate sense of what life would be like as an associate; second, I wanted to work for a firm with a hard-working, collegial, and hospitable culture where I could develop my skills while working with great people. After several conversations with Maslon attorneys and going through the OCI interview process, I felt confident that Maslon would provide both.
It didn't take long to find out that I was right. From the moment I stepped in the door at Maslon I was treated like an attorney—meaning I was expected to do the work of an attorney. As a summer associate in the firm's transactional practice, I received a diverse range of projects and was encouraged to take ownership over each matter I touched. I worked directly with partners and was even given the opportunity to interact with clients directly. From my earliest assignment to my last, I was doing the day-to-day work of a practicing attorney, which gave me the accurate career snapshot I was looking for.
The Maslon culture also exceeded my high expectations. Maslon attorneys are hard-working people; they are extremely dedicated to delivering the highest quality work to the client. But they are also uniformly respectful, collegial, and generous. The attorneys I worked with gave me the same degree of respect that they give to every other attorney at the firm. They were always willing to discuss projects and ideas, and encouraged me to speak up when I thought I had the right answer to the problem at hand. They also gave frequent, substantive, and in-depth feedback that helped me develop and improve the quality of my work. Ultimately, the Maslon attorneys made me feel like a colleague, which empowered me to do my best work for the firm.
My summer at Maslon was a wonderful experience. I give the firm and the summer program my unwavering endorsement, and I am very excited to begin my career as an attorney at Maslon.
