Voice of Maslon

I really enjoyed my experience as a summer associate at Maslon. The attorneys I worked with during my 10 weeks were not only great at their jobs; they were also friendly people who were great to work with. Everyone was incredibly welcoming and eager to help me feel at home during my summer at the firm.

Maslon provided me the opportunity to explore my general interest in litigation through a broad range of interesting assignments that gave me exposure to many new and different areas of the law. Each lawyer who oversaw my assignments paid special attention to providing me with thorough background information on every project I worked on. It was great to get a real sense of the broader issues and challenges involved in each case, and how my specific assignment fit into the bigger puzzle.

The program placed a strong emphasis on developing my practical skills, especially through the writing mentor program. Each written assignment I turned in was critiqued line-by-line by one of the strongest writers in the firm–even the little things in my writing like a weak word choice or improper parenthesis were pointed out. This process was really helpful in identifying the weaknesses in my writing so I could improve them in the future.

The attorneys were also incredibly willing to share their experiences at Maslon. Everyone was happy to indulge me with questions both big and small throughout the course of my summer, ranging from the big questions like whether life at Maslon was anything like what I experienced in the summer program (a resounding yes) to the little questions like why they were employing a particular strategy on the case they were working on. I left the summer with a great understanding of what it would be like to be a practicing attorney at Maslon, and the skills to be a better lawyer.
