Maslon Attorney Susan Link Quoted in Minneapolis Star Tribune Article "The Minnesota Investor: Avoiding Cabin-Heir Fever"

October 22, 2007

Maslon Attorney Susan Link was extensively quoted in the Minneapolis Star Tribune article "The Minnesota Investor: Avoiding Cabin-Heir Fever," which appeared in the October 21, 2007 edition. The article advises Minnesota cabin owners on how to avoid potential issues down the road when the family cabin may change hands.

Link recommends three key ways to ways to approach the issue:

  • If leaving the cabin to more than one heir, always name an executor;
  • Consider setting up a family trust to avoid complications that may occur in the case of divorce; and
  • Consider forming a cabin limited liability company (LLC) or a cabin limited liability partnership (LLP) to protect the property from issues of liability or divorce.
