Overview
Emily Taylor is an associate in Maslon's Litigation Group who primarily represents clients in tort & product liability, investigations, and insurance recovery cases. Across a variety of disputes, she excels in delivering favorable results, whether through mediation, arbitration, or litigation.
In her product liability work, Emily defends clients facing legal action and counsels companies on best practices for avoiding litigation. Her investigations work includes helping corporations with highly sensitive internal investigations, responses to government enforcement actions, and issues related to federal and state compliance. In her insurance recovery work for policyholders, she positions her clients to obtain necessary coverage, responds to coverage denials, represents policyholders in disputes against their insurance brokers, and consults on many different types of insurance policies, from general liability policies to life insurance policies. Emily has also assisted in construction disputes and general corporate litigation.
In her prior roles as a prosecutor in both the Hennepin County and Ramsey County Attorney’s offices, Emily gained valuable experience first-chairing numerous felony jury trials, managing large case dockets, litigating pretrial motions, and negotiating pleas. As an assistant county attorney, she prosecuted various felonies, including drug prosecutions, property crimes, gun crimes, sexual assaults, and homicide cases, with some cases garnering significant media attention. In the trial division in Ramsey County, her most recent role, she also served as the office’s DNA evidence liaison for felony prosecutions. In Hennepin County, she served as a member of the county’s joint task force on reducing barriers to housing stability.
While in law school at the University of Wisconsin, Emily worked as a summer law clerk in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Minnesota, assisting in civil cases and felony prosecutions. She also participated in moot court as a competitor, coach, and executive board membership chair and competed on the mock trial team. In addition, she mentored high school students and served as vice president of community service for the Jewish Law Students Association.
In between college and law school, Emily was a full-time PSIA-certified ski instructor in Colorado.
During her undergraduate study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Emily served as a summer intern for the Hon. Susan Richard Nelson in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota and completed two internships with the Hon. Frank Magill in Hennepin County Juvenile Court. She was also elected captain of the University of Wisconsin-Madison mock trial team, where she won multiple Outstanding Attorney Awards.
Experience
- Served on team that successfully defended Polaroid against a $300 million breach of contract dispute brought by one of its former licensees, C&A Marketing, winning a complete defense verdict after a two-week jury trial in Hennepin County.
