Maslon Appellate Attorneys Contribute Chapters to Minnesota CLE's Eighth Circuit Appellate Practice Manual

March 30, 2018

Maslon litigators Wayne Moskowitz and Erica Holzer contributed several chapters to the 8th edition of Minnesota CLE's Eighth Circuit Appellate Practice Manual. Additionally, Maslon Attorney David Herr continues to serve as an editor on this treatise, having been the original editor and author in 1994. The book is designed to be a primary resource for attorneys representing clients in its namesake jurisdiction, written with an eye for comprehensiveness and edited to serve as a quick reference tool.

The contributions of Maslon's appellate attorneys included:

  • Chapter 6 – Responding to an Appeal and Voluntary Dismissal
    Wayne Moskowitz
  • Chapter 9 – Motions Practice and Summary Disposition of Appeal
    Erica Holzer

The manual is also considered the leading treatise on Eighth Circuit practice and is well respected by bench and bar.

David is a highly regarded appellate lawyer and complex case litigator. He is frequently sought out to provide practical and sophisticated advice on how to resolve difficult, multi-party disputes in trial courts and arbitral forums as well as in the appellate courts. David is past president of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, past president of the Academy of Court Appointed Masters, and regularly argues cases in the Minnesota appellate courts and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. He annotates the Federal Judicial Center's Manual for Complex Litigation, published and distributed nationally by Thomson West.

Wayne is a partner in Maslon's Litigation Group. He has more than twenty-five years' experience handling all aspects of complex business litigation, including business torts, contract disputes, and partnership and shareholder disputes. For the past twenty years, Wayne has been representing employers and employees in covenant-not-to-compete and trade secret litigation across the nation. A former judicial clerk with the Minnesota Court of Appeals, Wayne has significant appellate experience, and he teaches legal writing at the University of Minnesota Law School.

Erica is a member of Maslon's Litigation Group and focuses her practice on trial and appellate work in cases involving complex commercial disputes and product liability litigation. Erica currently serves on the Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Minnesota Rules of Civil Appellate Procedure as well as the Governing Council of the Minnesota State Bar Association’s Appellate Practice Section. Before joining Maslon, Erica served as a law clerk to the Honorable Matthew E. Johnson of the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Erica earned her law degree, summa cum laude, from William Mitchell College of Law, where she served as the editor-in-chief of the William Mitchell Law Review.
