Bill Pentelovitch Reappointed to the Minnesota Supreme Court's Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board

Bill Pentelovitch, an attorney in Maslon's Litigation Group, has been reappointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to serve on the Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board for a three-year term. The Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board makes probable cause determinations in disciplinary actions commenced by the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility (OLPR), decides appeals from determinations by the OLPR that discipline is not warranted, considers petitions for reinstatement filed by suspended lawyers, and undertakes other tasks as part of Minnesota’s system of lawyer discipline. Bill was previously appointed to serve a partial term through Jan. 31, 2022.

A former partner and now of counsel at Maslon, Bill worked for nearly five decades as a business trial lawyer and now focuses his professional efforts on serving as an arbitrator and a mediator, including as a commercial and employment panelist of the American Arbitration Association.
Bill has tried hundreds of business disputes before judges, juries, or arbitrators, and he also has argued dozens of appeals in state and federal courts. He practiced nationally in the areas of non-compete, trade secret, and unfair competition litigation, and he has tried and won intellectual property licensing and royalty disputes collectively involving over $1 billion. In addition, Bill has been a leading trial lawyer in Minnesota in the area of ownership and governance disputes in closely held corporations, limited liability companies, and partnerships.
Bill’s wide-ranging trial practice over the decades has encompassed virtually every type of dispute in which businesses can become embroiled, representing a wide variety of financial institutions, medical device and pharmaceutical companies, manufacturing companies, real estate and construction companies, and professional service firms in breach of contract, business tort, and statutory liability and interpretation cases.
Bill has demonstrated a long-term commitment to pro bono service as well as advancing the legal profession. He served twice on the Hennepin County Bar Association's Committee on Ethics and was a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association's Civil Trial Certification Council from 2009 to 2016. Bill's dedication to social justice and pro bono work has included service as a board member and general counsel of Planned Parenthood of Minnesota, chair of the ACLU-MN and later the ACLU-MN Foundation, as well as pro bono representation in a number of high profile and important matters concerning voting rights, reproductive freedom, and school desegregation, among many others. He was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Minnesota State Bar Association in 2020 and the Lifetime Commitment Award of the Cardozo Society in 2014.
