Jonathan Parritz Presented with the Twin Cities Cardozo Society's 2022 Sidney Barrows Lifetime Commitment Award

June 23, 2022

Maslon is pleased to announce that Litigation Group attorney Jon Parritz, who was selected in 2020 to receive the Sidney Barrows Lifetime Commitment Award by the Twin Cities Cardozo Society, will officially be recognized during its Twenty-First Annual Dinner on June 23. Created in memory of Sidney Barrows, one of the founding chairs of the Cardozo Society, the award is given annually to a senior attorney or judge in the Twin Cities who exemplifies excellence in his or her practice, community service in the Jewish and general community, and lifelong learning. Past honorees include our late partner and founder Marvin Borman—the first recipient of the Award in 2000—as well as Maslon attorneys Bill Pentelovitch in 2014 and Howard Tarkow in 2016. The 2020 award recognition was postponed due to the pandemic.

Jon joined Maslon in 1991, and served as a partner from 1996 through 2020. Since retiring from the partnership, Jon has maintained an active practice as Of Counsel to the firm. During his career, Jon has handled some of the most complex and challenging litigation cases in Minnesota, including representing a class of hourly Walmart workers in a case that resulted in a multimillion dollar trial verdict for his clients, an achievement for which he was honored as an Attorney of the Year by Minnesota Lawyer. In addition to handling ongoing litigation matters, Jon also serves as arbitrator in a wide range of commercial and employment disputes.

A longtime community volunteer and leader within the Jewish community, Jon served as a member of Twin Cities Cardozo Society's Steering Committee and was co-chair for the organization. He has also served in leadership and volunteer roles for numerous organizations and foundations, such as: founder and co-chair of the Jewish Metropolitan Council, vice-president and president-elect of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas, and past president and board member of the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul and Talmud Torah of St. Paul. In addition, he was recently elected to the board of the Jewish Federations of North America. Jon also regularly provides pro bono legal services as a volunteer with Mid-Minnesota Legal Aid and Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services.

The Twin Cities Cardozo Society is an affinity group for Jewish attorneys, judges, and law students, sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater St. Paul and the Minneapolis Jewish Federation. Its mission is to strengthen bonds among legal professionals through educational, social and philanthropic activities, and offer opportunities for communal involvement and leadership.
