Minnesota Supreme Court Reappoints Jim Long to the Legal Services Advisory Committee

January 18, 2024

Jim Long, an attorney in Maslon’s Litigation Group, has been reappointed by the Minnesota Supreme Court to its Legal Services Advisory Committee (LSAC). The Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) nominated Jim for the three-year position.

LSAC makes grants of funds appropriated by the Legislature, as well as from Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) revenue, attorney registration fees, and other sources, to legal services programs that assist nearly 50,000 low-income clients statewide.

“I feel privileged and excited that the Minnesota Supreme Court has reappointed me to LSAC for a second three-year term so that I can support the vision of the Court and of the MSBA for improved access to justice across Minnesota,” Jim said.

Jim has a long history of working towards access to justice for those who otherwise could not afford an attorney. He has been an MSBA North Star Lawyer since the program’s inception and in 2016 received the Hennepin County Bar Association’s Pro Bono Publico Distinguished Service Award. Jim has over 35 years' experience trying cases and counseling businesses in the areas of antitrust law, franchise law, and dealer/distribution law. He has successfully represented clients in multiple state and federal courts across the country; successfully tried cases to juries in antitrust, franchise, dealer termination, and breach of contract cases; responded to state AG, DOJ, and FTC investigations; worked on numerous arbitrations; and argued appeals in the Seventh and Eighth Circuit appellate courts in addition to several state appellate courts.

Jim also teaches antitrust law at his alma mater, the University of Minnesota Law School.
