Steve Schleicher to Be Honored with Truth and Justice Award from Urban League Twin Cities

December 10, 2021

Maslon is pleased to announce that Steve Schleicher, a partner in Maslon's Litigation Group and co-chair of the Government & Internal Investigations Group, will be honored with the Truth and Justice Award from the Urban League Twin Cities.

Steve and fellow attorney Jerry Blackwell will be recognized at the group's 2021 Virtual Holiday Unity Ball on Dec. 16, 2021, for their pro bono work as special prosecutors in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin for his role in the murder of George Floyd. The award "recognizes individuals who have challenged prejudice, intolerance, injustice and other wrongs regardless of personal consequences in the face of powerful interests that would protect the status quo," specifically "in recognition of your successful efforts as a team to get justice for the family of George Floyd."

In July 2020, Steve was one of four private attorneys selected to serve on a pro bono basis as part of the larger prosecution team, which includes representatives from the Minnesota Attorney General's Office and the Hennepin County Attorney's Office—all working under the leadership of Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison. Steve continues his service as the trial of the other three former police officers charged in George Floyd's death approaches.
