U.S. District Court Appoints Keiko Sugisaka to Merit Selection Panel for Federal Magistrate Judge

Maslon is pleased to announce that Keiko Sugisaka, chair of the firm governance committee and partner in the Litigation Group, has been appointed by the U.S. District Court of the District of Minnesota to its Merit Selection Panel, which will advise on the selection of a new federal magistrate judge.

The 13-member panel will recommend the five candidates they deem best qualified for the position of U.S. Magistrate Judge after reviewing applications and interviewing prospective candidates.

Keiko concentrates her practice primarily on product liability, complex business, and intellectual property cases, including consolidated and multidistrict litigation. She has broad experience successfully representing clients in federal and state courts nationwide involving product liability defense; patent, trademark, and copyright infringement; director/officer liability; trade secret misappropriation; unfair competition; and commercial disputes. She also has extensive experience in all stages of complex and large-scale discovery and e-discovery issues.

In addition, Keiko was appointed to serve as an at-large member of the Minnesota Commission on Judicial Selection from 2016 to 2023. She is Maslon's member representative in Twin Cities Diversity in Practice, a nonprofit association comprised of Twin Cities law firms and corporate legal departments whose vision is to create a vibrant and inclusive legal community, and the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, an organization made up of more than 400 members who serve as general counsel of major corporations or managing partners of leading law firms working to build a more open and diverse legal profession. Keiko also serves as a member of the firm's recruiting and DEI committees.
